Some families manage to lead a very simple life. Other families end up collecting many things over the years and end up with nowhere to keep it. Have a big declutter
Before you do anything else, you need to have a big declutter and get rid of any stuff that you no longer need or want. This can be difficult to do because we tend to hold on to things for sentimental reasons or ‘just in case’. However, it will undoubtedly be worth it in the long run. Make piles of items you can give away, recycle responsibly or maybe even sell. You never know, you could end up with a little more cash in your wallet if you utilize places such as eBay, Facebook Market Place, and Craigslist. If you have not used or even looked at anything in a while, the chances are you will not use it again. Apply the Kon Mari method if you are not sure.
Hire a self-storage unit
Anything big or cumbersome, or anything that you know that you need to keep but will not be using for a while could potentially go into a self-storage facility such as KeepSafe. They will be locked away safely and entirely out of your way but available to access whenever you need them.
Invest in stacking storage systems
Stacking storage systems are an ideal way to save space as everything fits together perfectly. Storage that is made to be stacked will allow you to add more boxes as and when you need them and will keep everything perfectly organized.
Find hidden storage spaces
Many of us have plenty of storage spaces to use in our homes – we just have to be a bit more creative when looking for them! Under the bed, sofa and sink are often wasted spaces, as are the alcoves and spaces above stairs and under the stairs. Look for the spaces in your home and see if you can use them wisely.
Drawer dividers
If you open a drawer in your home, we can pretty much guarantee it is a bit of a mess, with things shoved in, right? Well, when you are doing that, you are not maximizing the space. By putting in some simple drawer dividers, you will not only make your drawers tidier and easier to find things, but you will also make sure you are using all of the available space. You can pick them up from places such as Ikea, or if you are on a budget, bits of cardboard or even old, clean egg cartons can do the trick.
Use clear containers
Use old glass jobs and clear plastic tubs to store smaller items in. As well as recycling and repurposing items that would otherwise be destined for the landfill, and saving you money, they also have the added benefit of allowing you to see what is in them straight away.
