There is a new way of growing your tribe and market your blog to new people!
I’m not sure if you use Pinterest, but if you don’t you should start as soon as possible.
If you need help getting started with Pinterest you can enrol on my FREE course Pinterest For New Bloggers.
Pinterest is a really powerful marketing tool in general but today I want to talk about a specific feature: Pinterest communities!
Table of Contents
Pinterest Communities
Pinterest communities are kind of what groups are for Facebook.
Yes, this is the most social part of Pinterest.
Communities are groups created on Pinterest to discuss a specific topic.
Pinterest communities: Pinterest is going social! Click To Tweet
This feature is not only a new way for Pinners to communicate with others but is a new tool through which you can market your blog.
Let me explain. Communities are places where you can find people interested in your topic and talk with them, ask them what their problems are and give them the solution.
Let’s say that your blog is about fitness. If you can find a community about fitness (of course you can, and if you can’t you can create one yourself), you can join and chat about the topic with other pinners and, when it’s related, post one of your pins.
You can even use links!
So, what better way of marketing your blog than go to solve a problem for other people.
PIN IT FOR LATER
Pinterest communities VS Pinterest group boards
Please do not confuse communities with group boards.
While these are two very good marketing tools they are really different.
Group boards are useful to market your pins and give them more visibility.
In other words what happens with group boards is that you pin your own pin to a group board. That pin can be seen by the followers of that group board that are not necessarily your followers. You hope that some of the other contributors will re-pin it giving your pin an exponential visibility.
I do love group boards, especially the niche related ones. Not only is the possibility of re-pins high but also the followers of the boards are interested in the topic of your pin.
Read here everything you need to know about Pinterest group boards.
Pinterest communities are another league. You can use them to grow your tribe. You can see what people are interested in your topic and what they are talking about. Also, what they need, and to provide them with the solution through your blog.
Pinterest communities are definitely one of the best marketing tools. Through them, you have the possibility to reach new people and especially with them being more targeted. These people that you reach are already interested in your topic.
Another good way to use Pinterest Communities
Pinterest communities other than marketing your blog can help you to grow your blog.
I have created two Pinterest communities:
Blogging for new bloggers: dedicated to blogging tips of any kind.
Pinterest for new bloggers: dedicated to Pinterest marketing and strategies.
These are supportive communities where bloggers connect and grow together. The main purpose of this group is to share tips, offer feedback, have discussions and foster collaboration.
Join the communities to learn something new every day. You will be up to date, have clarity with any of your doubts, be able to ask questions and share your tips to help other new bloggers.
How to join Pinterest communities
At this stage, Pinterest communities are an invite-only feature.
However, after you join one community you can search for communities close to your topic.
Once you join a community you will see the community icons on your Pinterest profile.
Desktop:
Mobile:
There you can find both, the communities that you created and the communities that you have joined.
You can also search communities close to your topic
Create your own community
Once you have activated communities by joining one, you have the possibility of creating your own community.
It will ask for a name, a cover and the description
For the cover dimension, Pinterest recommends an image that’s at least 1440 pixels wide, so it can work across a variety of formats (web, iOS, Android, etc). On the web, cover photos have a height of 255 pixels, but are slightly taller on mobile, depending on the device.
When you name your community, remember that Pinterest is a search engine so don’t go fancy with the name but use something related to your topic and easily findable.
And remember that once a community name exists no one else can use the same name.
In the description tell people what your community is about and take advantage of the fact that you can use links!
How to invite people to your community
You can invite people to join your community by sending an invite directly to them on Pinterest, by email, Messenger or WhatsApp; by sharing your community on Facebook and Twitter or by link sharing.
Once you are in your community click on the little icon with the plus and all the options will show up.
Communities are a really recent feature, thus they are a work in progress. I will update this post every time the latest news comes through. You can pin the post and check it every now and then.
If you have any doubts just leave me a comment and I will try my best to answer all your questions.
Also, let me know if you are already a member of communities and what you think about them.
If you still don’t have the feature enabled you can join one of our communities and the communities will automatically appear.
Join the communities to learn something new every day

Great post! I just joined both of your communities. While I do enjoy the Group Boards both because they give me more exposure and they introduce me to new blogs, I do like the idea of having a place where I can interact with other bloggers and ask questions.
This is an awesome explanation of pinterest communities and group boards! Now I totally understand how they both work to boost blog posts and followers etc. Thanks so much Marina.
