Living sustainably, or making small efforts to make a change is something we can all play a part in helping to eliminate some of the problems that will impact us all in the future.
You don’t have to be perfect and completely change your lifestyle, but small efforts can still make the world of difference. The good news is that lots of these things can be done within the home.
Here are just some of the things we could be doing at home to do our bit for the environmental effort.
Change your tyres
Did you know that simply switching over to more fuel-efficient tyres can make the world of difference when it comes to your vehicle’s carbon footprint? Well, yes you can. Fuel-efficient tyres will help you to save approximately 4% on your fuel costs because using them will help you to burn less fuel which will help in your environmental efforts!
Skip the Takeaway Coffee
Your morning coffee shouldn’t be at the cost of the Earth. While using coffee pods in specialised machines is the easy, cheaper option than spending your hard-earned cash on a coffee shop espresso every day- they, too have their negative impact on the environment, as they are seldom recyclable, and often end up in the landfill. An old fashioned coffee pot with ground coffee is just as delicious and brings the joy of sharing back into drinking coffee. Simply fill the pot with water and use the grainy water to feed the plants.
Refill Where Possible
Drinking water is good for you and hosts many benefits to the body. But can you imagine how many plastic water bottles you get through in a year to make sure you drink enough water? You do the math and you will realize how quickly it all adds up. There are a lot of ways to make sure you get enough water, without the use of single-use bottles. Try using reusable bottles where possible. There are some available with pop out straws so you can take sips throughout the day, as well as those that keep your water refreshingly cold for up to 24 hours. Why should you keep buying water bottles when there are so many economical and ecological alternatives?
Store Your Leftovers
Storing your leftovers is a fantastic, simple way to promote greener living. It’s surprising how much good food is wasted each day simply because of a lack of storage solutions for leftovers. Put your leftovers into a tub and chuck it in the fridge or deep freezer- it’ll keep for a while in there and makes thinking about lunch the next day a lot easier! With so many shapes and sizes on the market, these plastic pots are designed to be used and reused over and over again–so they promote ditching single-use containers once and for all!
It is possible to make the world of difference to the world around you just by making a few small changes to your everyday living.
