If you have been blogging for a while or even if you’re new to blogging, you may have heard that growing your email list is paramount.
Advice like “Focus on growing your email list!”, “The money is in the list”, “Building your email list should be your number one priority” is everywhere.
And for good reason!
An email list will always be the most valuable asset to your blog.
An email list lets you connect with your target audience, build brand awareness, and maximize your income through affiliate marketing and product launches.
Through an email list, you have a direct channel to the people who are the most engaged with your content and who have already shown they trust you and want to hear more from you!
Most importantly, having an email list will allow you to remain in contact with your readers no matter what happens to your blog or any social media platforms you use to drive traffic to your blog.
Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or even Pinterest, may change their algorithm any time or even decide to delete your content or shut down your account without warning.
If you only rely on external platforms to connect with your audience, you could suddenly lose everything.
On the contrary, if you build your email list, you’re pretty much safe because no one can take it away from you.
You “own” your email list!

Don’t make this rookie mistake
Although growing your email list is so important, many new bloggers don’t put much effort into it.
They may think they don’t need one “as yet”, they keep focusing on other stuff and postponing starting one, they might not know how to start one or what to do with the few subscribers they already have.
And in doing so, they miss out on the most powerful tool you may ever have as a blogger.

And just to be clear, I’m not judging here. This is actually a very regrettable mistake I’ve made myself.
In my first few months of blogging, I completed neglected this area and 5 months in, I only had an email list of slightly over 300 subscribers.
And the worst part was, I would email my subscribers rarely and inconsistently (and that’s an understatement!).
So, do yourself a favour, do not make the same mistake.
Start growing your list now!
When I finally got serious about building mine, the rate of my daily subscribers has increased tremendously.
So here I am sharing the strategies that I used to grow my email list quickly so that you can do the same.
9 proven and easy tips to grow your email list exponentially
Create something valuable to offer for free to your readers in exchange for their email address. This is usually called freebie, opt-in, lead magnet, incentive, or ethical bribe.
A freebie can come in the form of
- cheat sheets
- or anything else that can be valuable to your audience.
Getting something in return will definitely encourage your readers to subscribe to your newsletter.
2. Digital library
You could create a password-protected area on your blog where you offer different free resources, and give your subscribers free access to your digital library by providing them with the password once they join your email list.
3. Subscribe/sign-up forms
Add a subscribe form on the home page and to every page of your blog, in the sidebar, at the bottom of a post, in the header and/or in the footer.
4. Content upgrades
When relevant, add a subscribe form within a post offering a freebie related to the topic and content of your post. You can place the subscribe form within your post or at the bottom of the post. This is usually called a content upgrade.
5. Pop-up forms
I’m not a big fan of pop-ups, I personally think they negatively affect the user experience.
But they convert very well so you may want to add one.
If you add one, make sure it doesn’t cover the whole page on a mobile device or you may get penalized by Google.
Also, make sure that it can be easily closed and doesn’t pop up as soon as someone lands on your website.
It can be annoying to be prompted to join an email list before even having a chance to see what a website is all about. Even worse if the pop-up cover most of the content and is not easy to close.
I think the best, less intrusive and arguably more likely to convert pop-ups are the exit pop-ups.
Exit pop-ups are pop-up forms that only show up when a visitor is about to leave your website by closing the tab or hitting the return button.
I might consider adding an exit pop-up myself in the future due to the higher conversion rate of pop-up forms over static forms.
6. Call to action
Make the subscribe button stand out by making it in a different colour from your blog colour palette and branding.
Change the wording on your subscribe button from the default “Subscribe” or “Submit” to something more compelling such as “Heck, yes!”, “Yes, please!”, “Give it to me!”, “Count me in!”, “I want in!”.
7. Target audience
Target the right audience and build an email list that is organized and segmented.
Numbers don’t matter when your subscribers are not really interested in your content.
In order to have a list of truly engaged subscribers:
- Don’t offer fantastic incentives for subscribing. Although this may seem like a great idea, you will end up getting subscribers who are only interested in the reward
- Do not participate in Facebook group threads with mandatory reciprocation to subscribe
- Don’t ever purchase bulk email lists!
8. Landing pages
Consider building up a landing page for your freebie, and promote and share it on social media.
A landing page, also known as a lead page or squeeze page, is a page that has a clear focus.
It only includes the description of your product (in this case, your freebie) and a clear call to action (in this case, joining your email list to get the freebie).
No other distractions, no navigation menu, no comment box, no sidebar, no related posts, no external or internal links, share buttons optional.
You can create a landing page with a plugin or with Mailerlite.
Mailerlite is FREE up to 1000 subscribers. Unlike other free plans offered by other email providers like MailChimp, Mailerlite free plan comes with all the features of the paid plan, including the possibility to create landing pages.
If you would like to see what a landing page looks like, you can check out the landing page for my free blogging course here.
9. Pin it!
Create a pin for your freebie and direct Pinterest users to your landing page where they will be able to download your freebie by joining your email list.
Use eye-catching graphics that attract attention.
If you don’t know how to pin your freebie on Pinterest, you can read our easy Pinterest strategies to get you started.

The secret to growing your email list fast
These easy strategies all work very well and have proven to be very effective.
Since I started implementing them on my blog, the number of my subscribers has increased considerably.
However, they require a lot of work and effort.
The process of creating opt-in forms, freebies, content upgrades for most posts, landing pages, and attractive pins is time-consuming and quite demanding.
But what if I told you that there is a way to grow your email list faster and more easily?
Yes, that’s right, there is an easy way to double your results in half the time and with a fraction of the effort.
It’s a simple and winning strategy.
Use quizzes and giveaways to build your list.
Quizzes appeal to people’s curiosity, natural competitiveness and desire for validation.
No one can really resist the seductive and attractive power of a quiz.
I’ve found myself taking quizzes on Facebook to find out what my management style is or which character of Sex & the City I am.
And by judging from my Facebook newsfeed on an average day, I must not be the only one!
So, use the power of a quiz to your own benefit!
Entice your audience with the promise of revealing something about themselves. In return, they might want to sign up for your email list.
Another very easy way to jumpstart your email list is by setting up a giveaway.
Giveaways are a powerful marketing tool used by countless online businesses to generate a quick and large influx of traffic and subscribers.
People love free stuff, and again, they like to compete.
If you pick a valuable and significant prize, you’re on the way to get hundreds of subscribers in no time.
However, don’t make the mistake of picking a generic prize that would appeal to the masses like an i-phone or a VISA gift card.
Remember, the aim is to build an email list of subscribers who are genuinely engaged with your content. Quality over quantity is definitely the way to go here.
If you pick a prize valuable to your audience, a giveaway may work wonders to build an email list of target subscribers.
But I know what you’re thinking.
Yes, it’s all well and good but how do I set up a quiz or a giveaway? I have no idea where to start!
No worries, I got you covered. I have the best tool for you!
The tool that makes growing your email list easy, fun and quick
So, here you have it: if you want to grow your email list like a pro, use Interact.
Interact is a platform that lets you create quizzes, giveaways, and even polls.
For full disclosure, I will mention that I was gifted this tool by the amazing team at Interact.
But, let me tell you, I soon realized this was one of the best gifts I have ever received in my life!
Since I created a quiz via Interact, my subscribers have skyrocketed!
According to most online marketers, the average conversion rate for a good opt-in is around 5%. With my quiz via Interact, I’m averaging a whopping 66.7% lead conversion from people who have taken the quiz!
What I love about it
Besides the incredible conversion rate that has increased my subscribers exponentially, Interact comes with many features I love.
Firstly, I love the fact I can see my audience’s answers in an aggregated form. This feature offers me a lot of insights into my audience.
This way, I’m not only able to grow my email list quickly but I can also learn what the needs and interests of my audience are and target them accordingly.
Funny enough, I have discovered through my quiz that what my audience is primarily struggling with is growing their email list! (and SEO).
So, I will definitely make sure to offer more actionable tips on these topics in the future via blog posts and through my newsletter.
Another thing that I like is that I can add a “skip this step” button on the sign-up form of the quiz.
I would hate for my audience to feel tricked into having to give me their email address to see the quiz results especially after having invested already some time answering the quiz questions.
I do want to have an email list of truly engaged subscribers who genuinely want to be added to my newsletter.
At the same time, I love the fact that on the quiz result page, I can add a call to action where I recommend them the next step to take, which usually is to sign-up to receive a tailored freebie.
Moreover, I appreciate the possibility to add the subscribers to different groups or segments of my email list depending on their quiz results.
My aim is to send differently targeted newsletters depending on the needs, interests, and level of my subscriber groups.
But really, Interact comes with so many great features that it would be impossible to list them all.
I will just add a few more reasons why I’m in love with this tool.
Further reasons why I like it
- I love the fact that with just one tool, you have access to creating quizzes, giveaways, and polls.
- It’s a very user-friendly interface that allows you to create a quiz or set up a giveaway in a matter of minutes.
- You can create different types of quizzes including assessment and personality quizzes.
- It comes with several quiz templates for many different niches or you can make your own from scratch.
- It’s easily customizable and you can use your own style, branding, and logo.
- It integrates seamlessly with all major email marketing providers including Mailerlite, ConvertKit, and MailChimp.
- It tracks conversion through Google Analytics and Facebook Pixels so you can always check how your quiz or giveaway is performing.
- It comes with a branching logic feature by which you can decide to show users different questions depending on how they answer previous questions.
- It comes with the possibility to share the quiz results on social media platforms.
- You can embed your quiz on your website, use an announcement bar or a pop-up, share a direct link to your quiz, or publish your quiz as a social media post or a Facebook ad.
- The team at Interact offers support via email, phone, and live chat.
- As to giveaways, I like the fact that additional entries can be gained by completing some actions such as following on Pinterest or sharing the giveaways on Facebook.
What’s not to like about it, really?
Maybe the only thing they could improve on is adding the possibility to gain extra giveaway entries when referring another contestant.
But except for this small shortcoming, I can’t fault this tool in any way.
You can have it too!
The folks at Interact are so generous that I was gifted the top of the range tool for a lifetime.
But the good news is, Interact comes with different plans from Free to Pro through Lite and Growth.
So, if you’re on a budget, you can either get the free plan or start a free trial for one of the premium plans here.
And if you want to have a feel of what a quiz would look like you can take my quiz below!
