We all have those days where it feels like everything is just going wrong. Sometimes, it might even be a week or a month. If you let those bad days get on top of you, it’s easy to lose your passion for life. Sometimes, life is just unfair and bad things will happen to you, so it’s important that you know how to keep your spirits up and get through the bad days so you can enjoy all of the good ones. There are plenty of small things that you can do to make yourself feel better when things aren’t going your way. These are some of the best ways to boost your mood when you’re having a bad day.

Put Yourself First
A lot of the time, people feel a bit down because they’re dealing with a lot of outside stress. That might be stress from work, drama with friends or dealing with a difficult family situation. If all of those things are getting you down, it’s important that you put yourself first and don’t take on other people’s problems. People think that it’s selfish to ignore everybody else and just take some time to look after yourself, but it isn’t. If you never put yourself first, you’ll constantly be worried about other people and their problems, rather than sorting out your own. If you’re having a bad day and other people are stressing you out, take the time to be on your own. Ignore any calls and messages that you get and go out and do something that you want to do, without worrying about anybody else, it’ll make you feel a lot better.
Write It Down
Sometimes, just getting things out can make you feel a lot better. If you’re worried about something or there is something that has upset you, just get some pen and paper and write down how you’re feeling and why. Keeping it all bottled up is only going to make you feel worse but if you get it down on paper and then throw it in the bin, you can move past whatever it is that’s ruining your day. This is a great exercise if you’re just feeling bad generally and you don’t really know why because writing it down will force you to think about it more and work out what it is that’s troubling you so much. You could even start keeping a daily diary so you can get a better idea of the things in your life that are causing you to feel bad, and then change them.
Buy Yourself Something
Buying yourself something nice can help to boost your mood when you’re feeling a bit down but you’ve got to be careful. Don’t just start inventing excuses and spending money whenever something slightly bad happens because you’ll just end up with an empty bank account. That said, it’s ok to treat yourself every now and again when you’ve had a tough day. It doesn’t have to be anything big, you could order yourself some flowers online, for example. Having a nice bouquet waiting for you when you get home from a long day at work can really boost your mood and make your house a little more welcoming, which always helps. When you’re treating yourself, make sure that you’re not always buying something really expensive and you’re not relying on spending money to feel good about yourself because that will only encourage bad habits.
Exercise
Exercise probably isn’t top of your list of fun things to do to make yourself feel better but it can really help. When you’re stressed out or anxious about something, sitting around the house thinking about it is only going to make things worse. Exercise is a great stress reliever so getting out of the house and going for a run could really help. It gives you a bit of time to think about your problems more rationally as well. Regular exercise also releases endorphins that improve your mood naturally. You don’t have to do anything too strenuous, but half an hour of exercise will boost your mood and give you a bit more energy to face the day.
Cry It Out
If you’re having a tough time, there’s no point trying to pretend that it isn’t happening. Everybody gets upset sometimes and that’s fine, there’s no shame in that. When you’re so worked up you just feel like you could burst into tears, just do it. It seems counterproductive because nobody is happy while they’re bawling their eyes out but afterward, you will feel a lot better for it. You can just let all of that stress and tension out and then start to move forward and deal with whatever has been getting you down.
Meditation
The modern world is always moving at a hundred miles an hour and sometimes, it’s overwhelming. That’s why you should look for ways to just take 5 minutes to shut it all out and relax properly. Meditation is one of the best ways to do that. Just find a quiet area where you won’t be disturbed, shut your eyes and focus on your breathing. It will help all of that stress fade away and you’ll come out of it with a more positive mindset. Doing this once every day can make such a big difference to your life.
Call A Friend
Sitting around with your own thoughts is the worst thing that you can do when you’re having a bad day. You’ll just go over and over your problems and run around in circles making yourself feel worse. Instead, why not just call a friend and see if they want to do something? It’ll distract you and you can go and do something fun to boost your mood. If you want to talk about whatever is bothering you then you can, if you don’t, that’s fine. Spending time with a friend will always make you feel better anyway.
If you do small things to make yourself feel better when you’re feeling down, it’s so much easier to stay on top of things.
