Do you really want to share your life with another person? Are you ready to compromise? Are you ready to steal time from yourself and give it to another human-being? And most importantly, are you really ready to give up rom-coms and start the Star Trek saga?
On the other hand, do you really want to spend the rest of your life in your pyjamas in front of Netflix? Eating McDonald’s while scrolling through the photos of happy couples on Facebook? Do you really want to keep having no one to call after something serious or super-exciting has just happened to you?
Being single has its perks but so does having a partner.
So which one is better? Mmhh, not sure. Shall we do one of the most loved things in the modern world? OK, let’s do it! Let’s make a pros and cons list!
Table of Contents
FOOD – better as a single or in a relationship?
SINGLE
Pros
You can eat whatever you like, whenever you like and wherever you like (feeling like eating in bed? You sure can!). Do you love adding ice-cream to your nachos? No one will be there to tell you you’re gross. And biggest pro ever: you don’t have to pretend to be full after a little salad!
Cons
Lots of regrets when stepping on your scale and tons of crumbs in your bed!
IN A RELATIONSHIP
Pros
Your partner will probably prepare delicious home-made meals for you (if not, he’s not the right one, ditch him!).
Cons
Your kitchen will be as messy as a single’s bed.
SUNDAYS – better as a single or in a relationship?
SINGLE
Pros
Sleeping in, pyjamas all day long, crawling from bed to couch and back again, Netflix, books, hot bath and possibly pizza! Oh my! I really miss my “single-Sundays”.
Cons
You will have to move your ass to open the front door for the pizza delivery guy.
IN A RELATIONSHIP
Pros
Cuddling under a blanket. Did I just make you cringe?
Cons
I don’t even want to consider the possibility that he could be one of those nonsensical people that like waking up early… I feel a shiver down my spine!
SLEEPING – better as a single or in a relationship?
SINGLE
Pros
A queen bed just for you… do I need to say more???
Cons
What are you going to warm your feet on?
IN A RELATIONSHIP
Pros
No bread crumbs in your bed!
You can finally use the bed for something else than sleeping.
Ah, and of course, let’s not forget about your feet.
Cons
ZZZ-Zzzz-ZZzzz-hngGGggh-Ppbhww- zZZzzzZZ…
FAMILY – better as a single or in a relationship?
SINGLE
Pros
It is YOUR family, you can do whatever you want and they will understand.
Cons
Every single member of your family, including your two-year-old cousin that is barely capable of saying “mummy”, is constantly asking “when are you going to find a boyfriend?”
IN A RELATIONSHIP
Pros
Double family = double birthday pressies for you!
Cons
Do you remember your 24 hour-pyjama-days? They’re gone. Forever. Now, it’s all about your mother-in-law’s 50th, your sister-in-law’s wedding, your parents-in-law’s anniversary, your cousin-in-law’s graduation (can I say cousin-in-law? I’m Italian, remember? I murder English) and especially those Sunday lunches where everyone (even your boyfriend’s grandmother that suffers from dementia) will ask you “when are you going to get married?”.
HOME – better as a single or in a relationship?
SINGLE
Pros
Did I say pyjamas enough?
You can put on every weird face mask on the market and no one will die of a heart-attack.
Oh, and yes, one more thing! You can go to the toilet with the door open! (why would you want do that? I don’t know, but apparently it’s at the top of every “best things about living alone” lists).
Cons
It’s all on you. You have to do everything. Cooking, washing up, cleaning, gardening, paying the bills, grocery shopping, doing the laundry, and the list goes on…
OMG! Just came to mind: spiders!
IN A RELATIONSHIP
Pros
He’s there, he’s the person you are in love with…and he’s just there! Plus, you have a shoulder to cry on 24/7!
Cons
Cleaning! I think this is the biggest problem. Everyone wants a clean house but no one wants to clean (except for my grandmother, she really used to enjoy doing it for some reason). Should you live in a filthy house or should you fight with your partner over the chores? Trust me, you should definitely read Emma Betty’s genius solution to this dilemma.
Is a “pros and cons list” really the answer?
I’m here with my glass of red wine writing about this non-sense crap while my fiancé is warming up a special meal that my mother-in-law made for us last night.
But I could have been here in my pyjamas waiting for the pizza delivery, and that would have been nice too.
Everything is about what you want, what you like, what makes you happy, really.
You choose, so choose the right thing!
Andy’s comment after reading this: “You should marry a butler”.
I have read through your article and i was satisfied of the good information that you have contributed in your article! Thanks a lot for that beneficial article!
Very revealing bless you, I do think your current audience might want a whole lot more content such as this continue the excellent work.
Informative article but no matter for how long you enjoy being single after a particular period of time you will need a partner. Both being single and being in relationship has its own pros and cons as you have described but both are necessary at some point.
I love being single. I hate being at the beck and call of a man and having to worry about ‘pleasing’ his majesty all the time. I like doing what I want, when I want. I don’t get lonely and when I do I call my close friends:) Love your blog btw!
